as the clouds die down your fingers brush
the naked dark
the drier night

and all your presence iridescent
their eyes ascend sweet Halley’s comet

the light engulfs
these wandering hearts
till time brings us apart
you’re still there but you’re not

i wish i could grab hold
to take you with me wherever i go
but you, oh neighbor of Mars
i belong down here and you up in the stars
