Library Director

I grew up going to my local library and have always found them to be magical places. I read my first mystery book and was totally hooked.  Where else can you find such treasures, but at a library? I was offered the opportunity to get my MLIS at my first library job and am so glad I proceeded with that.  Best decision ever!  I am currently at an academic library in a community college and my goal is to help our students, faculty, staff and community find what they need, whether it is research material, a movie, some fun reading, or just a shoulder to cry on.  Helping people find what they need is the reason I became a librarian.  I think being a librarian is one of the noblest of professions.  We are the keeper of humanity's knowledge - so cheesy, but true!  My favorite quote about libraries is "This is a library. Crossroads of civilization. Refuge of all the arts against the ravages of time. Armory of fearless truth against whispering rumor, incessant trumpet of trade.  From this place, words may fly abroad not to perish on digital waves, but fixed in time, not corrupted by the hurrying hand, but verified proof. Friend, you stand on sacred ground: this is a Library." I love this and would love to give credit to the original author, Beatrice Warde.  She used "printing office" in place of "library", but I feel they are close kindred! I still feel that libraries remain magical places.
